 Dennis Braxton Barbour Dennis Braxton Barbour, age 77, succumbed to complications from Agent Orange exposure on August 16, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud United States Marine whose life was centered around hard work, family, and the people he loved.
Dennis was born July 24, 1949, and was raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. He later spent ten years living at Harkers Island, a place that became an important part of his life, before making Lake Royale his home in 2006.
Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was highly decorated and received the National Defense Service Medal. His strong work ethic continued throughout his life. He owned and operated a wrecker service in Raleigh, as well as Barbour's Harbor, and later owned and operated a landscaping business.
More important to Dennis than any job or accomplishment was his family. He deeply loved his beloved wife, Debbie, and took great pride in the family they built together.
Dennis was a loving and devoted father to his three daughters, Shannon and her husband, Jeff; Jennifer and her husband, Robert; and Alicia. He was incredibly proud of his daughters and the women they became. To them, he was more than their father--he was their hero, a man they could look up to, depend on, and love with all their hearts.
Dennis was also a proud grandfather to four grandchildren and great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren. He was a loyal brother to Jerry Wayne Barbour, Sr., and his wife, Lisa, Cathy B. Rozier and her husband, Ken, and a longtime friend to, Chris Rolison and wife, Tammy. His family was his greatest source of pride, and the love he had for them was at the center of his life.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Milton Braxton Barbour; his mother, Etta Mae Johnson; and his brother, Mark Barbour.
Dennis will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his years of hard work, his service to his country, and the love he gave so freely to those closest to him. His daughters will forever carry with them the example of the man they called Dad and the hero they were blessed to call their own. The life he built and the love he gave will live on through Debbie, his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who knew and loved him.
Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 20, 2026, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale. Military honors will be presented at 7:00 p.m.
