Martha Lou Foster Harper
July 11, 1940 - April 26, 2026

Elon, NC -- Martha Lou Foster Harper passed away peacefully at her home on April 26, 2026, after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of her family.

A native of Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Tollie Gray Foster and Mary Olive Newman Foster. She shared 63 devoted years of marriage with her beloved husband, Kenneth L. Harper, building a life rooted in faith, family, and friendship.

Lou was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend whose presence and kind heart touched all who knew her. She found her greatest joy in her family, especially in the lives of her grandchildren, and loved every moment spent together.

She is survived by her two sons, David Harper and his wife, La Monica Harper, granddaughter Hadley Harper; step-grandsons Xavier, Jaden, and Ellis of Durham, Brian Harper and his wife, Robbyn Oakes Harper, of Burlington; granddaughter Makena Harper; and grandson Eli Harper. She is also survived by her dear friend, Janet Hardee of Graham, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her brothers, Durward G. Foster of Lake Gaston, Fred D. Foster (and his wife, Ann Grissom Foster) of Charlottesville, VA, and Alton G. Foster (and his wife, Sandra) of Franklin County.

Lou retired after 35 years of dedicated service at Elon University. She was a faithful member of Elon Community Church, United Church of Christ, where she served on numerous committees. Through her work with the Women's Fellowship, including many years as treasurer, she gave generously of her time and spirit, and was honored with a Lifetime Membership. She was also a former member of the American Business Women's Association in Burlington, where she served as secretary.

Those who knew Lou will remember her for her kindness, faith, and the way she made others feel welcomed and cared for. Her life was a blessing to her family and community.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Elon Community Church UCC, with visitation at 11:00 a.m. and a memorial service at 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elon Community Church UCC.
