Franklin County’s main river and tributaries burst to overflowing Wednesday as Tropical Storm Alberto dumped about 7 inches of rain in some places. Alberto, which sloshed through central North Carolina early Wednesday, dumped nearly 5 inches of rain in Louisburg.

On Monday, commissioners discussed a lawsuit that alleges that the county, along with a dozen defendants, was negligent in the 2004 helicopter crash that killed a former deputy.
