David is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Dottie Averette; daughters and sons-in-law, Whitney and Peter Woods; Kaitlyn and Andrew Trotter; sisters and brother-in-law, Kathy Jones; Becky and Jim Trevillian; Nancy Averette; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Spence and Cindy Dean; Joseph Collery; Stephen Wade and Wanda; grandchildren, Collery Woods and Lennon Woods; Ford Trotter and Smith Trotter; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at the Jones Performing Arts Center at Louisburg College. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton. The family will receive friends at the home at all times.
