Born in Mountainside, New Jersey, Peter lived a life defined by service - to his country, his family, and to anyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

In a time when many ran from service, Peter ran toward it. He enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served our country during the Vietnam era. His military service was not just something he completed but something that shaped his deep sense of duty, patriotism, and responsibility to others.

Pete never met a stranger. He had a big personality, an even bigger heart, and an uncanny ability to connect with people of all ages (and animals). He helped without being asked and offered advice without judgment. To many, he was an adopted big brother, someone who made you feel seen and supported.

Peter loved cars and music, and he had an extraordinary memory for facts, stories, and past connections, often surprising people with knowledge no one else could recall. Learning was not something he kept to himself. He was a natural teacher who guided others on a lifelong quest for curiosity, understanding, and asking better questions.

Grounded by deep faith and guided by optimism, he found joy in the small things. He loved the ocean and fishing as places that reflected who he was at his core: calm, reflective, and content.

In recent days, countless stories have emerged from friends, neighbors, and former classmates spanning decades, each one describing how Peter helped them, encouraged them, taught them something, or made them laugh. It is a testament to a man who never sought attention, yet left a profound imprint on the lives of others.

For 56 years, Peter shared his life with his beloved wife, Lorraine (née Scoidas). He was a devoted father to Stacy, a loving presence to her husband Cory, and an adoring Pop Pop to Waverly Ann, who brought him immeasurable pride and joy. He was also deeply loved by his rescue black lab, Shelly, his faithful companion and fishing buddy. Peter was predeceased by his father, Hayden Infantino, and mother, Evelyn (née Schweitzer). He is survived by his sister, Joyce Opitz; his brother, Richard Infantino; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Peter's legacy lives on in how he taught - by example, by story, and by simply caring enough to share what he knew. He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank the Duke University Hospital cancer teams for their care and compassion during Peter's journey. Those wishing to honor his memory are encouraged to donate to their local animal shelter or perform a random act of kindness to brighten someone's day. Peter never wanted words left unsaid or grudges to win. He believed love should always be what remains.
