Joyce Loyd Mitchell
August 15, 1936 - February 23, 2025

YOUNGSVILLE, NC -- Joyce Loyd Mitchell, a devoted servant of Christ, was called home to be with her Savior on February 23, 2025. She lived a life full of love, faith, and devotion to her family and the Lord.

Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Calvin E. Mitchell Jr., with whom she shared over 69 years of marriage -- a lifelong partnership built on faith, love, and unwavering commitment. Together, they created a legacy of devotion to God and family, shaping the lives of those who followed. She was also preceded in death by her dear sister, Alma Blackley.

Joyce is survived by her loving sons, Calvin E. Mitchell III (Grace Mitchell) and M. Dean Mitchell, who were blessed by her wisdom, strength, and boundless love. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Calvin E. Mitchell IV (Lindsay Mitchell), Michael D. Mitchell II, Daniel Kim (Leanne Kim), and Rebekah Lee (Philip Lee). She is also survived by her sister and lifelong friend, Linda Piaski (John Piaski), with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Additionally, Joyce leaves behind several beloved great-grandchildren and a loving extended family who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Joyce's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She walked in righteousness, always striving to live a life pleasing to God. At just 15 years old, she began teaching a Sunday school class, a role she faithfully fulfilled for more than six decades. She found joy in serving others, offering kindness, wisdom, and encouragement to everyone she met. Her warmth and compassion touched countless lives, and her steadfast belief in God's grace was an inspiration to all who knew her.

She was a woman of strength and grace-- a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and a cherished friend to many. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the lives of those she loved.

A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at Youngsville Town Cemetery on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Flat Rock Baptist Church in honor of her lifelong devotion to faith and family.

Though we grieve her passing, we rejoice in knowing she is at peace in the presence of the Lord, reunited with her husband, her sister Alma, and other loved ones who have gone before her.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."
- Matthew 25:23
