Gary Robert "Bob" Anderson
Gary Robert "Bob" Anderson

YOUNGSVILLE, NC--Gary Robert "Bob" Anderson of 115 Beaver Ridge Drive, Youngsville, NC

He was born in Charleston, WV on February 26, 1946.

Bob was the youngest son of the late Opie and Elsie Bernice Harper Anderson.

Surviving family members: son, Robert Todd Anderson and his wife Kathey, of Salisbury, NC; daughter, Erin Leigh Anderson and husband Kevin Brock, of Columbia, SC; preceding him in death were one sister, Virginia, and three brothers, William Harold "Bill" Anderson, James Edward Anderson, and Paul Curtis Anderson.

A native of West Virginia, Bob was a graduate of Fairmont State College. He was active in many community activities but his passion was with the Jaycee Organization. His activity in this organization was on the local level in Clarksburg, WV where he garnered many awards for his service. These included project chairman of the year on several occasions, Speak Up Jaycee winner, and Outstanding Young Man. He served the local chapter as President and assisted in guiding them to the award of Most Outstanding Chapter in the state of WV during that year and was recognized as the Outstanding Local President by the same group.

Bob also served the Jaycees on the state and national levels. Bob's highest honor during his tenure with this group was being named a Jaycee International Senator. This was the highest honor that could be bestowed upon a member and was recognized internationally.

Bob retired from the Wake County Public Schools System as a teacher at Wake Forest Rolesville High School (now WFHS). He served in many capacities at the school. His main subject area was teaching Residential Construction and was instrumental in helping to start the Construction Technology Career Academy. This academy was the first and only one of its kind in the state of NC and allowed students to embark on a three year program to discover both themselves and the potential for a career in their future. His work involving these students led to being named as vocational teacher of the year by The Home Builders Association of Raleigh/Wake County and by the Professional Construction Estimators Association of America, Inc./Triangle Chapter. His highest recognition was by his fellow peers when they chose him as their representative as Teacher of the Year.

Upon his retirement the Board of Directors of the Construction Academy honored Bob by establishing a scholarship in his name. This scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding Senior member of the academy.

While at Wake Forest Rolesville, Bob also served the student athletes of the school as a coach. He was the Head Coach for the Women's Varsity Soccer and served as an assistant for the Varsity Football program. He always contributed any success in his programs to the outstanding student athletes that played for the school. He felt that he learned so much from them that it always made him a better person. The contributions made by these athletes led to him being honored by the CAP 6 as a Coach of The Year during his tenure.

After his retirement Bob worked at his children's high school alma mater, William G. Enloe, as the Varsity Women's Soccer Coach and as an assistant football coach. He felt that this was an excellent opportunity to thank the school for the educational opportunities they provided for his children.

Mr. Anderson's request for cremation without service was honored. An informal wake will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers Bob "Coach" Anderson requested that a donation be made to the Bob Anderson Scholarship Fund c/o Wake Forest High School (WFHS). The address is 420 Stadium Drive, Wake Forest, NC 27587.
