Bunn's baseball 'brothers' capture 4-A crown

BUNN -- The Wildcats only had three blemishes on its season.
But, the team's response to one of those, to county rival Franklinton in the Vance Charter Easter Classic in early April, said Coach Patrick Warren, is what led to jubilation last week in Holly Springs -- when Bunn captured the 4A baseball state championship, sweeping the Burns Bulldogs in a best of three series.

County's new budget helps protect farms, doesn't increase taxes

LOUISBURG -- The Franklin County Board of Commissioners approved its 2026-27 budget, with two changes from the proposed spending plan.
First, commissioners agreed to add $50,000 in an effort to help preserve farmland.

Small business 'two-step' makes survival difficult
Small business 'two-step' makes survival difficult

We're probably all familiar with the old saying about one step forward and two back ... or, maybe it's two steps forward and one back.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if life in 2026 was that simple? Especially if you are a small business owner who is fighting an uphill battle from daylight to dark -- and who are we kidding -- waking up at 2 a.m. still trying to figure things out?
Such is reality in this first year of the second quarter of the 21st Century!
Let me give you a few examples:

County commissioner meetings give folks a chance to stand and deliver

The time set aside for public comments during Franklin County Board of Commissioners meeting is an ideal time to learn about what matters to folks.

Packed with nutrients, peppers can do it all, and range in flavors

Bell peppers do it all -- slice them into salads, roast them on the grill or stuff them with beans and rice.
Crunchy, colorful and packed with nutrients, these versatile veggies may be some of the most underrated foods in your fridge.
Bell peppers are technically a fruit, a type of berry, but you're more likely to find them in a stir fry rather than a dessert. Their flavor depends on their color:
