Breaking News: Franklinton commissioner Gilliam resigns, health cited

FRANKLINTON -- Town Commissioner Ray Gilliam resigned from the town's governing board, officials revealed this week.
Mayor Elic Senter said Gilliam, the town's former police chief, handed in a letter of resignation on Sunday evening, effective immediately.
"He resigned because of health issues," Senter said, referencing Gilliam's letter. "He did not come to this decision lightly."
The town board next meets on Oct. 20, where they would then vote whether to accept Gilliam's resignation.

LOUISBURG - Funeral services for Primes "June" Neal Jr., 87, of Jamaica, NY, formerly of Louisburg, who died Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Haywood Baptist Church, Louisburg, with the Rev. Luther Coppedge officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
