Shane Mitchell and Raymond Stone will battle Tuesday for the Commissioner District 7 at-large Democratic nomination, culminating an intense run-off campaign.
Mitchell and Stone were the top vote getters during the May 6 primary, and Stone requested a second primary.
Both men have said the winner of Tuesday’s race will be the candidate who gets his constituents out to vote.
Advertising campaigns have apparently caught the attention of voters.

Franklin County commissioners have yet to approve the county’s 2008-09 budget, but they’ve agreed to make commitments that would define it.
During a work session on Thursday morning, the board agreed to include 13 new paramedics in the 2008-09 budget.
To cover that cost, the board plans to pull from one pot of available funding — money currently being used for rescue squad capital improvements — and will pull the rest from the general fund.

Franklin County staff presented commissioners with its short-term plan and long-term goal of handling sewer allocations that — on paper — are perilously close to exceeding the county’s means.
Using a sewer allocation study prepared by engineering firm Stearns and Wheler, Utilities Director Bryce Mendenhall explained during a special-called meeting on Thursday the county’s situation and detailed how they plan to address the matter.

FRANKLINTON — Wake Health Services opened its clinic to Franklin County residents this week.
Its Franklin Community Health Services clinic, a non-profit medical practice, focuses on the county’s medically underserved.
The Wake County-based entity planned to be open by the first of the year, but had difficulty finding an appropriate location.

BUNN - W. Dale (Buck) Anderson, 58, died Monday, June 16, 2008. A celebration of his life is planned for July 5 from 12-3 p.m. at Rock Spring baptist Church, Highway 39, Louisburg.
LOUISBURG - Brenda Baker Wilson, 58, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008.
ZEBULON - Roma Lester Wilder, 88, died Monday, June 16, 2008. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 19, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service. Burial followed in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, with honors provided by the Raleigh Fire Department.
ZEBULON - Hal Pearce Ferguson, 79, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008. Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 20, at Strick;land Funeral Home in Wendell. Burial followed in the Ferguson family cemetery.
LOUISBURG - Emma Burris Shillinglaw, 79, of Louisburg died Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Wake Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Shillinglaw of Louisburg, and son-in-law, Danny B. Arnold of Youngsville.
LOUISBURG – Kermit Blake Griffin, Jr., 45, of the White Level Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday surrounded by his family.

LOUISBURG - Louisburg College Athletic Director Mike Holloman didn’t have to read too far into Monica Gordy’s resume before being impressed.
Four words especially caught Holloman’s interest -- ‘deep passion for softball’.
Not even one paragraph through her resume, Gordy was well on her way to becoming only the third Louisburg College softball coach in the fast-pitch era.

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College has attained just about every imaginable team feat on the golf course over the past four years.
Except a national championship.
The Hurricanes have posted Top-10 finishes each season since 2005 at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Tournament in New York.

FRANKLINTON -- Soccer continues to grow in the western portion of Franklin County. Just look at the participation numbers from this week’s Second Annual Franklinton High School Soccer Camp.
Over 80 youngsters -- twice as many as last year -- attended the three-day event, which concluded Wednesday on the FHS campus.
The list of former Franklin County players earning head football coaching positions continues to grow.
During a Friday press conference, Kevin Crudup was introduced as the new grid coach at Nash Central High School.
Crudup, who prepped at Bunn, has been at Central for the past several seasons as an assistant. His brother, Cedric, is currently the head coach at Northern Vance High School.

LOUISBURG -- Traveling to the Tidewater Region of Virginia in July will be no day at the beach -- Virginia Beach, that is -- for the Louisburg Softball All-Stars.
Instead, the All-Stars will spend three days in Chesapeake at the Pony Softball Eastern Zone Tournament.
RALEIGH -- The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired the rights to left wing Darcy Hordichuk from the Nashville Predators.
In exchange, Nashville will receive Carolina’s fifth-round draft pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. If the Hurricanes do not sign Hordichuk, who is an unrestricted free agent, prior to the start of the 2008-09 season, Carolina will receive Nashville’s fifth-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

FRANKLIN COUNTY -- Youngsville (Minors) and Bunn (Majors) will be the hosts for upcoming Dixie Youth District Baseball Tournament action.
The Minor League event will run from June 28-July 2 at Luddy Park. The Major League tourney is slated for July 5-10 at the Bunn Elementary School Baseball Field.
FRANKLIN COUNTY -- Here are the team rosters for the Dixie Youth District Coach-Pitch Baseball Tournament, which begins today at the Louisburg High School Softball Field:
CHATTANOOGA, TN. -- Chris Coghlan had four hits on his birthday, while Rick Vanden Hurk and two Carolina relievers combined on a six-hit shutout as the Mudcats blanked Chattanooga 7-0 at AT&T Field on Wednesday night in a Class AA Southern League baseball contest.
Coghlan, who turned 23 on Wednesday, had three singles and a double to lead a 14-hit assault for the Mudcats (2-0), who won their second straight game to begin the second half.

I have been receiving for several years now, through the Internet, an interesting guide to Spanish prepared by Gerald Erichsen.
This guy is absolutely fantastic in aiding the public to be aware of the many aspects of the Spanish language and culture.

FRANKLINTON — Following Tuesday night’s meeting, Larry Carver can take a magic marker to his nameplate.
By unanimous decision, the board removed the interim from his title, tapping him as the board’s permanent town manager.
Moira O’Neill, Ellen Biesack and David Biesack take part in the Pilgrimage and Walk of Remembrance that began in Raleigh earlier this week and will end in Washington, D.C. The group, made up mostly of Raleigh residents, marched through Franklinton on Tuesday as part of their efforts to promote anti-death penalty sentiment and abolish the death penalty.
OXFORD — Union Bank and Trust, which opened two years ago, has exceeded the $100 million threshold for assets and remains ahead of projected budgets for the initial three-year business plan.
Union reached the three-digit level in assets during the bank’s eighth quarter of operations.
