The Franklin County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday to discuss new water resources in the face of a dwindling supply.
The meeting comes on the heels of a board decision to limit non-essential water usage.
The actions, said county Utilities Director Bryce Mendenhall, are needed to preserve water the county already has and meet a demand that is expected to surpass supply in the not-too-distant future.

During a third trip to war-torn Iraq, Congressman Bob Etheridge said he’s witnessed new signs of civility and progress.
Much of it, he said, can be attributed to a surge in troops that, when proposed a few months ago, Etheridge openly questioned.
“At the time (I spoke out about it) I felt strongly about what I was saying,” Etheridge said during a telephone conference call with reporters on Wednesday.
FRANKLIN’S FUTURE. Members of the Franklin County Homebuilders Association and the Franklin County School system honored Cedar Creek and Terrell Lane Middle School students who took part in the Designers of Tomorrow 2008 contest. The primary field was increased by one this week when Jeremy Neal filed for the District 3 commission seat, currently held by Robert Lee Swanson.
Neal, 32, is seeking the Republican party nod to take on the Democratic nominee in November.
Franklin County Sheriff Pat Green announced this week the opening of the South Western Sheriff’s Office Satellite Station.
The office is at 890 Park Ave., Youngsville (within the DanCo. Electric Co. at the intersection of U.S. 1 and 1-A North).

FRANKLINTON — After finding itself in the middle of a neighborhood grudge match, the town’s Board of Commissioners agreed to meet again to settle a parking dispute on Pine Street.
Pine Street neighbors say David Watson makes a habit of parking any number of his trucks, including a flat-bed rollback wrecker, in the driving lane on narrow Pine Street.

FRANKLINTON - Joe Louis Townes, 67, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today (Saturday, Feb. 23) at New Bethel Baptist Church in Warrenton. Burial will follow in the Kings-Burchette cemetery in Warrenton.
FRANKLINTON - Harvey Gene Ferrell, 63, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at Franklin Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home, Wake Forest. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
FRANKLINTON - Samuel Howard Collins Sr., 78, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Saturday, Feb. 23) at Fairview Cemetery, Franklinton.
HENDERSON - Newell Winston Askew, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at his home. Graveside services with military honors were conducted Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Askew family cemetery on Walter Grissom Road, with the Rev. Calvin Hedgepeth officiating.
FRANKLINTON - Funeral services for Elmos M. “Bud” Eaton Sr., 84, who died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at Old Liberty Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Murrill Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

HENDERSON - Not even head coach Gerald Melton could have envisioned the unlikely plot twist to the second half of the Bunn High School boys basketball season.
Just under one month ago, the Wildcats wondered if they would be able to sneak in a back door into the Class 2-A State Playoffs.
But Friday, the red-hot Wildcats, with a postseason slot already secured, were playing for the Northern Carolina Conference Tournament championship.

LEGGETT -- So much for the long-anticipated girls rematch between Louisburg and Weldon.
After LHS lost late in the regular season at Weldon -- marking the second time that happened in 2007-08 -- Louisburg head coach James Collier expressed his glee that the Lady Warriors could potentially play WHS again in the Tar-Roanoke Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.

HENDERSON -- All along, Bunn High girls basketball coach Daniel Wright felt as if his Ladycats were entrenched as the third-best team in the Northern Carolina Conference during the 2007-08 season.
So Thursday’s NCC Tourney semifinal loss at Southern Vance -- marking the fourth time BHS has lost to SV this winter -- wasn’t necessarily a surprise to Wright.
Friday’s championship games at the Middle Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament had a distinct Franklin County flair, as three county teams were seeking MAC titles.
The annual tourney was played at the Cedar Creek Middle School Gymnasium.
The Bunn Middle School girls squad, which has been topped just once this season, lived up to its No. 1 seed by reaching the final game against Hawley.
LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College closed out its regular season home schedule in style Wednesday with a wild 111-106 overtime victory over Guilford Tech in a key Region X men’s basketball matchup.
LC led by 10 points at halftime, but Guilford Tech was able to rally behind the shooting heroics of Beaufort native Vince Davis, who would finish with a game-high 38 points.

HENDERSON -- The official mascot name for Southern Vance High School is the Raiders, but on the basketball court, fans of the school like to refer to their team as the Runnin’ Raiders.
Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Northern Carolina Conference Tournament against Franklinton, Southern Vance’s boys did their best to make the faster moniker a permanent part of the school’s plans.

To be named to the A honor roll, a student must make no grade lower than 93. To be named to the A/B honor roll, a student must make no grade lower than 85.

On Feb. 12, American Legion Post #228 of Louisburg presented the Boys and Girls Club of Louisburg a check for $1,000. The check, a portion of the proceeds from a month-long raffle sponsored by the post, was presented as a part of Post 228’s pledge to help “add value to the community” and its continuing effort to help support the Louisburg Boys and Girls Club and its activities. Post members stated that they feel strongly about the mission of the Boys and Girls Club and applauded them for providing alternative activities for the children of our community. In a gesture symbolic of the concern shared by all members of the post, “that we must provide our children with the tools they will need to survive the challenges they will face in life,” the check was presented to Judy Johnson, left, CPO for the area Boys and Girls Club, and Ron Williams, right, unit director for the Louisburg Boys and Girls Club, by the two oldest members of the post, Clea Nicholson, second from left, and Hargie Brodie, both veterans of World War II.

The final man accused of taking part in the killing a Bunn teenager, Marc Philippeaux, was sentenced this week.
Elliott Hazelwood, 28, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact of first-degree murder on Thursday.
Superior Court Judge Paul Gessner sentenced Hazelwood to between 44 and 62 months in jail. Hazelwood received credit for serving a little over three years in jail already.
