A local association that champions cattle farming in Franklin County continued one tradition earlier this month and will begin a new one next month that emphasizes youth involvement in farming.
SEEING GREEN. Ellie Siphle’s emerald eyes are focusing on the green John Deere tractors at the Justice Community Antique Tractor, Car and Engine Show last year. Of course there are red ones and yellow ones and blue ones too. The 2006 show starts Friday and continues through Saturday - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
N.C. Rep. Lucy Allen, D-Franklin, has been appointed to the North Carolina-Virginia High Speed Rail Compact which will study, plan and develop high-speed rail transportation in the two neighboring states.

MILLERSVILLE, Md. - Carol Jones Upchurch, 67, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006 at the University of Maryland Hospital. A private service was conducted, with burial in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, Md.
FRANKLINTON - Clarence Hinton “Chick” Wilson, 85, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006 in Franklin Regional Medical Center, Louisburg. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Sept. 4, in the Franklin Funeral Service chapel in Franklinton, with the Rev. Clyde Waiden officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Fairview Cemetery.
LOUISBURG - Funeral services for Mrs. Lucinda Wright “Lacine” Mayo, 43, who died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, will be conducted at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 6) at Haywood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Luther Coppedge officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
RALEIGH - Frank Amis Reavis, 80, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006 at Wake Medical Center. Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery, Louisburg.
ANGIER - Jessie Robert McLamb, 74, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Sept. 4, in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Angier. Burial followed at Banners Chapel Advent Christian Church cemetery, Benson.
RALEIGH - Mrs. Jean Newton Reilly, 81, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006. A private graveside service was held Saturday, Sept. 2, at Montlawn Memorial Park.
FUQUAY-VARINA - Candace McKinley Klohr, 18, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006. A celebration of her life was conducted on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 7:30 p.m. at her home, 413 S. Main Street, Fuquay-Varina.
WHITE LEVEL - Joseph Mark “Joey” McKenna, 20, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006. Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Wood Baptist Church cemetery.
YOUNGSVILLE - Lillian L. Polk, 76, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006. Arrangements by Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Wake Forest.

ZEBULON -- TJ Nall pitched six scoreless innings and clinched the Southern League strikeout title as the Jacksonville Suns defeated the Carolina Mudcats 8-1 Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium in a Class AA Southern League baseball matchup.

LOUISBURG - Rick Mohlmann has questions, and a football game against the Christopher Newport JVs was supposed to provide the answers.
Though Louisburg College’s scheduled meeting Sunday at Christopher Newport was listed as an actual contest, Mohlmann had also planned to use the matchup as a glorified run-through to determine his starters at several hotly contested positions.
