Franklin County and area residents came out in force Wednesday to help the Red Cross stock its blood supply. Representatives of the Triangle Area Chapter of Red Cross said the need for more blood in the region was critical and residents gave accordingly.

No cruisin’ for Berger and Allen
Some state leaders are taking heat for what’s being called a taxpayer-funded party cruise just before the July 4 weekend, but neither of Franklin County’s two delegates attended.
The state Ports Authority organized an invitation-only trip aboard a river-class ferry so state leaders could attend the tall ship festival in Beaufort on July 1.
The trip is being criticized because the taxpayer-paid-for excursion came complete with a steel drum band, catered seafood, beer and wine and desserts.

Hicks Road development gets OK for smaller lots
A development on Hicks Road can have lots that are smaller than zoning restrictions would ordinarily allow. The Youngsville Board of Commissioners approved a special use application Thursday during its regular meeting that will allow Tri South Developments to subdivide a 61-acre property into lots that are less than 10,000 square feet.
