LOUISBURG - Elsie Christine Hayes Gordon Leonard, 91, died Friday morning, June 3, 2016. A funeral service was held at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 7, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. The family received friends immediately following the service. Burial was private at Sandy Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

She was a daughter of the late Willie and Bessie L. Hayes. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gilliam Gordon and Pete Leonard; sons, Craig Gordon and Danny Gordon; 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

Surviving: sons, the Rev. Butch Gordon (Beth) of Middlesex, Keith Gordon (Susan) of Louisburg, John Hayes of Chiefland, Fla.; daughters, Jane Benz (Whit) of Cary, Gwen Wham (Bruce) of Pfafftown; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.
